The Animal Breeding (AB) Group, is dedicated to enhance bovine productivity, thereby ensuring profitability and sustainability in the dairy and livestock sector. The group actively implements and monitors scientific breeding programs, including performance recording, genetic evaluation, and genomic selection for animals raised in farmers’ herds. To accelerate the multiplication of superior germplasm, it promotes advanced reproductive technologies such as Ovum Pickup, In Vitro Embryo Production, and Embryo Transfer (OPU-IVEP-ET), making them accessible and affordable for farmers.
In addition to its breeding initiatives, the group plays a pivotal role in:
- Importing high-quality germplasm to strengthen national breeding programs.
- Capacity building of professionals in genetic evaluation and reproductive technologies.
- Implementing and monitoring government-sanctioned programmes to improve breeding efficiency.
- Providing technical consultancy to various stakeholders on breeding strategies.
